Do you Like Being Bossed Around by your Parents?

""Chris just didn't like being told what to do. I think he would have been unhappy with any parents; he had trouble with the whole idea of parents""(Krakauer 115)

Topic: The Dynamics of Family

In this quote, one of Chris' male friends was asked about what he thought of Chris' family. Chris hadn't really expressed anything at all of his family to his friends, but they had a general idea of their own. Chris was a rebellious and heavily independent person, who despised getting orders from someone else. He liked to do things himself and in his own way. ""Chris had so much natural talent," Walt continues, "but if you tried to coach him, to polish his skill, to bring out that final ten percent, a wall went up"" (Krakauer 11), like in this quote, Chris' father even agreed on how Chris detested the idea of being helped or being told on how to do something. So parents in general, are protective and caring figures. A parent's job is to take care of their child, teaching them the ways of life. Such as: how to act around others, how to have polite manners, and how to do certain things. This comes back to the quote, because parents are people who are literally telling you what you can and can't do and what you should and shouldn't do in your life. This was clearly something that went against Chris' thoughts, so it is agreeable that Chris wouldn't like the idea of parents at all. This can really make you wonder what kind of parent he would've been if he were to be one at all.
